Term Ends: 2025

Brian Shanks was elected to the school board in 2022.  He believes that good leadership and taking ownership is the key to solving problems.  As a trustee, Brian will take ownership of the problems our schools are facing and work to solve them.  He pledges to work through the Superintendent and help our kids succeed.

Brian grew up in a small rural town.  He served in the Marine Corps Reserve while attending Southwest Texas State University.  He took a break from college and served eight years in the Coast Guard.  He then went back to college to finish his degree.  After graduating in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, he took an entry level job with Texas State University and worked his way up to the Director of Learning Spaces.  Today his team works with faculty to integrate technology with their pedagogy. 

Brian has lived and worked in San Marcos since 2000.  He is married to a wife of 23 years and has four children.  Brian has worked with youth in his community most of his adult life, from coaching soccer, flag football, t-ball, softball, and Brazilian jiu jitsu, to teaching Sunday School and as a leader in Boy Scouts.
