Jessica Cain was elected to the school board in 2023. She has been the pastor of Living Word Lutheran Church in Buda since 2018. In this role, she has served in leadership on many boards, including her current positions on the strategy team for Central Texas Interfaith and the board of Texas Impact. Jessica has a deep passion for serving the community in any way possible, and a passion for public education in particular.

Jessica was born in raised in northeastern Ohio but moved to Texas as soon as she could—to attend college at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. There she earned a Bachelor of the Arts in theology with a minor in Spanish studies. She then went to the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (now United Lutheran Seminary) where she earned a Masters of Divinity. She was ordained as a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on May 31, 2015.

Jessica has three children who have been SMCISD students since 2021. Her husband serves as the campus pastor at Texas Lutheran University. The family moved to San Marcos in 2022 so that their children could grow and learn in this incredible community. Prior to being elected to the school board, Jessica worked as a substitute teacher in several of the district’s schools. Jessica is the proud product of public schools; she loves this district and relishes the opportunity to make it a place where all students receive not just the education but the love and support that they deserve.
