• Our School Name

    A native of San Marcos, Irene K. Mendez was a proud product of San Marcos CISD schools, having attended the public schools. After graduation from San Marcos High School, Ms. Mendez earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) and determined that she wanted to give back to her community. She became a Master Bilingual kindergarten teacher and served SMCISD for 28 years before her life was cut short by cancer. During the 1980's, Irene Mendez was recognized as a Career Ladder Teacher, an award given for excellence in teaching.

    Mission

    The faculty and staff of Mendez Elementary recognize that each child is an individual; that all children are creative; that all children long to succeed and be future ready. Therefore, the Mendez staff respects the individual needs of its students; is dedicated to providing a challenging, engaging learning environment that models high expectations for success, fosters the development of active, creative minds, and emphasizes the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of each child, empowering them with a sense of understanding and compassion for others.
