Technical Theatre Courses

Technical Theatre I
Technical Theatre I explores technical elements of theatre, safe theatre practices and basic design of technical theatre elements. Students are required to attend and evaluate the departmental productions during the year. Students will participate in at least one production per year. Course fee required.
Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: None
Advanced Technical Theatre 1
This course is an accelerated version of Technical Theatre I that stresses technical elements of theatre, how to utilize theatre systems (light board, tools, sound board, etc), recognize safe theatre practices, and apply basic script analysis techniques to technical theatre elements. Students will work as a technician on at least one show per semester. This class is capped at 15 students.
Grade Level 9-12
Prerequisite: 2-3 years of middle school theatre and an audition OR participation in a high school production.
Technical Theatre II
This course is an extension of Technical Theatre I I that stresses technical elements of theatre , how to utilize theatre systems (light board, tools, sound board, etc), recognize safe theatre practices, and apply basic script analysis techniques to technical theatre elements. Students will work as a technician on at least one show per semester. This class is capped at 15 students.
Grade Level: 10-12
Prerequisite: Completion of Theatre Arts I, Technical Theatre I, or Advanced Theatre Arts I and director approval
Technical Theatre III
In Technical Theatre III, students will find a focus (costumes, scenic design, lighting, sound, stage management, etc.) and design, create, and produce work and competition material throughout the year related to that focus. In addition, students work on at least one show per semester.
Grade Level: 11-12
Prerequisite: Completion of Technical Theatre II and director approval
Technical Theatre IV
In Technical theatre IV, students will focus on undergraduate design and production program requirements. Students will participate in at least one production per semester.
Grade Level: 12
Prerequisite: Completion of Technical Theatre III and director approval
Performance Courses

Theatre Arts I
This course includes expressive use of the body and voice, improvisation, parts of the stage, movement, technical theatre skills and appreciation. Acting is the focus of this class. Students are required to attend and evaluate departmental productions during the year. Students are not required to participate in a production.
Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: None
Advanced Theatre Arts I
This course includes more accelerated instruction in expressive use of the body and voice, improvisation, parts of the stage, movement, technical theatre skills and appreciation. Students are required to attend and evaluate the departmental productions during the year. Students will participate in at least one production per semester.
Grade Level 9-12
Prerequisite: 2-3 years of middle school theatre and an audition OR participation in a high school production in the prior year.
Theatre Arts II

Theatre Arts III
Theatre III focuses on expanding knowledge in the areas introduced in Theatre II with emphasis on classical acting concepts and skills. Students in Theatre III will participate in at least one show per semester.
Grades 11-12
Prerequisite: Theatre Arts II
Theatre Arts IV
Theatre IV students learn and apply general principles of directing through student directed scenes. Students are required to attend and evaluate the departmental
productions during the year.
Students in Theatre IV will participate in at least one show per semester.
Grades 12
Prerequisite: Theatre Arts III
Varsity Theatre

Theatre Production I, II, III, IV
This is an audition based course and serves as varsity theatre. This course includes more accelerated instruction in expressive use of the body and voice, improvisation, parts of the stage, movement, technical theatre skills and appreciation. Students are required to attend and evaluate the departmental productions during the year. Students are expected to audition for all mainstage productions and theatrical competitions.
Grade Level: 10-12
Prerequisite: At least one high school theatre course, an audition/application and director approval.
